Customised for Perfect Flame: SUPERGAS LPG for Pocket Lighters

LPG for Lighter Filling
The manufacturing of pocket lighters filled with LPG in India is experiencing significant growth, driven by rising demand and advancements in production technology.

These convenient and cost-effective lighters have become increasingly popular for everyday use. Indian manufacturers are capitalizing on this trend, enhancing production capacities and adhering to strict safety standards to ensure product reliability.

Furthermore, the availability of raw material (LPG), government initiatives supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are also contributing to the industry's expansion.

The Role of Customised Composition

Lighter filling typically uses a high-purity grade of butane that meets specific criteria for flammability, purity, and odour. This grade is often referred to as "lighter fluid" or simply "butane for lighters."

The composition for LPG in lighter is 10-15% propane and 85% -90% butane. This ratio often provides a good balance of performance and safety characteristics. To ensure safety, Ethyl Mercaptan, a distinctively odorous compound, is incorporated to give LPG a recognizable smell to aid in leak detection.

The perfect ratio of propane and butane in a lighter's LPG can influence its performance in several ways:
1. Butane generally provides a longer burn time due to its higher energy density. However, a higher propane content can improve ignition reliability, especially in cold weather.
2. Propane operates at a higher pressure than butane. Balancing the ratio helps maintain optimal pressure within the lighter, ensuring steady flame output without compromising safety.
3. Propane’s high volatility aids in easy ignition, while butane’s stability helps maintain a steady flame.

This ratio has become an industry standard due to its proven performance and widespread acceptance. By carefully balancing the properties of propane and butane, this specific ratio offers a reliable, efficient, and user-friendly experience for pocket lighter users.

Safety and Performance:

The precise filling of lighters with LPG demands stringent safety measures to prevent leaks and ensure the lighter operates safely each time it is used. IS 9994:2018 is an Indian Standard that specifies requirements for the safety and performance of butane gas lighters.

The lighter's flame must meet specific requirements in terms of size, shape, and stability. Lighters must undergo various tests to assess their compliance with the standard, including flammability tests, impact tests, and pressure tests.
